From factory floor to living room floor: Synthetic resin is quite the trend

Seamless beauty paired with ease of cleaning

Floors made of synthetic resin are true all-rounders. They are extremely robust, easy to clean and have a classy look thanks to their seamless surface. In the past, their application was mainly limited to commercial kitchens, factory halls and multi-storey car parks. Now, they are increasingly found in private living space. The trend towards minimalist design and the home decor styles that go along with it have contributed to this development. Industrial style furniture in particular goes very well with a synthetic resin floor, especially if it imitates the look of concrete. For the sake of health, however, only flooring products should be used that are free of pollutants. They can easily be recognized by the EMICODE® seal on the packaging.

Synthetic resin compounds are applied to the subfloor in a liquid state and then cure to form a jointless, non-porous and very robust floor. Since the surface is impact- and scratch-resistant, objects of daily life can fall down without leaving any damage to the floor.

Synthetic resin floors are very hard-wearing and have a repellent effect on water, moisture, grease and oil. With a normal degree of soiling, cleaning is very easy: just vacuum off the floor and give it a damp mopping. From a hygienic point of view, synthetic resin flooring is ideal: with a jointless, non-porous surface, no mold can grow. Another huge advantage: synthetic resin flooring has anti-slip properties and is therefore slip-resistant even when wet. That’s why this type of flooring is becoming more and more popular in private homes – especially in rooms subject to high wear and tear such as bathrooms, kitchens or basements. But it is also ideally suited for terraces and winter gardens.

In addition to their high practical value, floors made of synthetic resin are also quite pleasing to the eye. Whether glossy or matt, single- or multi-colored with a pattern, smooth or textured – the surface design options are virtually limitless. This means that synthetic resin flooring is now a real alternative for use in private homes.

To perfectly match the industrial furnishing style, synthetic resin flooring is now also available in concrete look. In addition, various decorative materials can be incorporated into the synthetic resin compound. Very popular are, for instance, so-called stone carpets, consisting of tiny pebbles mixed with synthetic resin as a binder. It is also possible to mix synthetic resin with sand. In no time at all, a “sunny beach” can be laid in your bathroom that brings back memories of your last vacation.

So there are many good reasons to lay a synthetic resin floor in your private rooms. However, it is better to leave this work to a professional floor layer. He knows the different properties of synthetic resins and will choose products that are tailored to the conditions on site. Before applying the liquid resin, the surface must be absolutely smooth, even and clean. Otherwise, the floor layer will carry out appropriate levelling measures.

Naturally, the synthetic resins used in your home should be free of pollutants. Products that have been awarded the EMICODE® EC1 quality seal meet the world’s most stringent emission limits. Before they receive the certificate, the products are tested by independent laboratories using the test chamber method. Regular spot checks, carried out by independent experts and testing institutes without advance notice, monitor long-term compliance with the limit values. This is a major advantage of EMICODE® over other certification systems for health and environmental compatibility.

The industrial style living trend brings the rough charm of old factory buildings into your own four walls. There’s no better match for this than a smooth, seamless synthetic resin floor, preferably in a concrete look. It is extremely robust, hygienic, water-repellent and easy to maintain. For producing the floor, the expert recommends using synthetic resins with the EMICODE® EC1 seal. They are guaranteed to emit only very low amounts of harmful VOCs and ensure that your indoor air is as pollutant-free as possible.
