Healthy renovation products for healthy living

According to a 2017 survey, every tenth German was planning to renovate their homes within the next two years. Healthy living and good indoor climate are becoming increasingly important. But what do you need to keep in mind if you want to enjoy a “clean atmosphere” after renovating or completely refurbishing your home – for the sake of your health and that of our environment? We provide answers.

1. Products used in our living space

Walls, ceilings and floors deserve special attention since they account for the largest part of the living space surrounding us at home. This makes it all the more important to carefully select the products used inside our own four walls. Adhesives, parquet varnishes, wall panels, fillers and insulating underlays – often, you hardly notice them in everyday life. If you use the right building and installation materials, you can avoid symptoms like headaches and insomnia, but also allergies and breathing problems.

2. Certificates are time savers

In order to know which products emit potentially harmful substances like VOCs, it is not necessary to check the ingredients. Simply look out for reliable eco seals on the packaging that certify the products to be low in harmful emissions. Certificates thus prove to be real time-savers. If you buy certified products for your home, you will later not need to worry about breathing in polluted indoor air. A positive side-effect is that low-emission products not only improve your own well-being, but also have less impact on the environment.

3. How to find the right seal

The stricter the requirements, the healthier the tested product. This is basically the guiding principle for finding a trustworthy certificate. The Europe-wide recognized evaluation system behind the EMICODE® seal provides reliable and useful guidance. It takes a close look at building and installation products: They are tested under the most stringent criteria in terms of health and environmental compatibility. Only low-emission products are awarded the label. Regular checks carried out by independent experts and testing institutes guarantee consistent quality. This is a clear advantage of EMICODE® over other certification systems for health and environmental compatibility.
