Put your trust in ecological building products

People spend around 90 percent of their lifetime in enclosed spaces where floors, walls and ceilings account for the largest area. Air hygiene is therefore an important criterion if you want to feel comfortable in your own four walls. 73 percent of Germans want a healthy home – this is what market researchers from YouGov found out in a survey for the wholesaler MEGA eG. When undertaking building and renovation projects, consumers therefore put their trust in ecological building products from reliable sources.

Tip 1: Expert preparation of the substrate

The basis for a sustainable floor structure is the expert preparation of the subfloor. It must be sound and level to ensure a firm bond with the floor covering and prevent any hollows. Never underestimate the danger of residual screed moisture. If the floor covering is bonded too early to an insufficiently dry subfloor, this can promote the formation of mold. To ensure the adhesive’s full bonding strength, the subfloor should also be free of dirt and other contaminants. Expert preparation is therefore key.

Tip 2: Make sure to use the right building materials

Building materials may contain pollutants that can later cause headache, insomnia, allergies and respiratory problems for the residents. Walls, ceilings and floors require particular attention as they represent the largest indoor area. Especially products like wall panels, sealants, adhesives, primers, fillers, joint sealants, insulation underlays and parquet varnishes should be largely free of harmless substances. It is therefore highly advisable to choose ecologically sound building materials.

Tip 3: EMICODE® stands for low-emission products

Helpful indicators in the search for ecological building materials are health and environmental labels like the EMICODE®. For more than 20 years, the GEV EMICODE® has been testing environmentally friendly and health-compatible building and installation products. If they fulfill the stringent requirements, they are granted the EC1 seal. Independent specialist laboratories ensure the uniform quality of these products by regular and unannounced spot checks. By choosing EMICODE® products, you can be sure to enjoy the unpolluted indoor air of a healthy home and to protect the environment.
