Tiles – the material of first choice

Walls and floors – they are virtually the stage and framework for our home life and furnishings. Due to their large surface area, they have a great influence on the look of the rooms but also on our health. What advantages do tiles offer over other wall and floor coverings? What is important when choosing and installing tiles? We provide answers.

1. Functionality – a strong argument for tiles

Water, moisture and dirt do not cause permanent stains on tiles. Falling objects produce less damage, hard heels leave no scratches. Tiles are easy to clean, hygienic and hard-wearing. Moreover, the ceramic covering is compatible with underfloor heating systems. As tiles are firmly bonded to the substrate, there is no separating air space between flooring material and substrate. The radiated heat reaches the living rooms and barefoot areas quickly and efficiently. Thanks to their functionality, tiles are not only popular for use in kitchens and bathrooms, but also in halls and cellars, on terraces and in garages. Today, these practical benefits are complemented by a multitude of modern designs. That’s why these all-rounders have increasingly found their way into our living rooms.

2. Enhance your living space with tasteful designs

White and square – a design of timeless elegance. But modern tiles can be so much more. The great variety of available colors, decors and formats, of laying patterns, textures and gloss grades leaves nothing to be desired. Whether playful, colorful or tone-on-tone, whether small mosaic or large, almost joint-free surfaces with XXL tiles of 25 x 150 cm up to 320 x 160 cm size – there is something for everyone. Tiles can even imitate the look of wood and natural stone. Thus, tiles combine a maximum of design options with a great number of practical advantages.

3. Make the right choice and have your tiles expertly installed

Space utilization and slip resistance are important criteria when choosing the right tile. To be on the safe side, you should ask the experts working in specialist stores. When it comes to installation, you had better contract the work to a professional tiler. He knows which adhesive mortar is best suited for the substrate and on underfloor heating. He carefully prepares the subfloor. After cleaning, he levels the surface and removes any unevenness. Before applying the adhesive mortar, he primes the surface to ensure a reliable bond between subfloor and tile. Finally, he installs the tiles with the desired pattern, fills the joints with a suitable tile grout and seals the connections with silicone.

4. Use healthy and environmentally friendly installation products

Tile installation is preferably done with EMICODE®-certified products. The eco label is awarded to the world’s least polluting installation products like levelling and smoothing compounds, primers, tile adhesives, grouts, silicones and many more. The required tests are carried out by independent laboratories. Regular spot checks ensure that the limit values are complied with in the long term – an important advantage of EMICODE® over other certificates for health and environmental compatibility.
